PATRIA & ARTE. Ugo Da Como e lo scultore Luigi Contratti
19/10/2024 - 19/1/2025
The monument to the Fallen from Lonato of the First World War, inaugurated right on 19th October 1924, was strongly wanted by Ugo Da Como who chose Luigi Contratti (Portogruaro, 1863 - Torino 1924) as maker, a sculptor active in Turin who studied in Brescia.
Previously, Ugo Da Como acting as President of Athenaeum of Brescia, Accademia di Scienze Lettere e Arti, commissioned to the same Luigi Contratti the Monument to the 16th century mathematician from Brescia Niccolò Tartaglia, inaugurated in 1918, right at the end of the First World War.
The exhibition PATRIA & ARTE is meant to remember the relationship of deep respect which connected the Senator from Brescia and the sculptor Luigi Contratti and suggests the sculptor's unreleased sketch for the monument to Niccolò Tartaglia for the first time to the public, according to an idea which considerably changed with the final version which we can be still today admired in Via Trieste in Brescia. The exhibition is completed with documents, photos and testimonies which reconstruct the patriotic feelings which already animated Giuseppe's mindset, Ugo Da Como's father.
The exhibition integrates in the planning - organized by the municipality of Lonato and the Ugo Da Como Foundation - of the celebrations for the centenary from the inauguration of the monument to the Fallen from Lonato of the First World War.
