A jump back in time. Siege at the Castle.
The Rocca di Lonato del Garda will be transformed into a historical camp on the occasion of next spring's Medieval Re-enactment.
The Confraternita del Lupo (Brotherhood of the Wolf), the group of mediaeval historical re-enactment enthusiasts who had invaded the Fornaci Romane in April last year and who, through customs, fashions, combat techniques and war tools, re-propose the way of life of the 13th century in the area.
The event is promoted by the municipal administration, within the scope of the Culture, Tourism and Events Department, in collaboration with the Confraternity and the Ugo da Como Foundation.
On Sunday 24 March, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the reenactors will besiege the Visconti-Venetian Fortress in full medieval spirit: at 10:30 a.m. they will open the camps, falconry and it will be possible to take part in the educational activities that anticipate the first declaration of war at 11:30 a.m.
From 12 noon the food area will also open, where you can have lunch while waiting for the afternoon's activities and the actual siege of the fortress.
It will be possible to book the themed lunch with a view of the historical camp through the Lonato Info Point (03091392226 or by email at info@lonatoturismo.it) choosing between the "Menu of the Lord of the Fortress" and the "Menu of the Princes".
At the 'Taverna del Lupo', on the other hand, water, soft drinks, bread and salami and chips will always be available without a reservation.
Numerous activities are planned in the programme that will entertain the public, such as the witch hunt, the sword baptism and the equestrian tournament. In addition, there will be educational workshops such as axe throwing (for both children and adults), archery, medieval board games and much more.
"The Rocca di Lonato is the jewel in the crown of our town, a real gem," comments the Councillor for Culture, Tourism and Events, Mariangela Musci. "In collaboration with the Confraternity of the Wolf, this year I wanted to recreate medieval atmospheres. For the whole day, we will be immersed in this historical period: we will be able to engage in activities peculiar to the time, admire excerpts of daily life, and try out dances and food typical of the period. An immersive experience and a unique and extraordinary adventure".
"What better setting than the Rocca for the staging of a medieval re-enactment," adds the Mayor, Roberto Tardani. "After last year's edition at the archaeological site of the Fornaci Romane, this year we are moving within the walls of the castle of our city, a place of history and culture par excellence.
See you in the splendid setting of the Rocca di Lonato del Garda, Sunday 24 March, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., for an entirely medieval day.
